Unhappy alternator replacement

Am in need of a service manual if possible. I have an 02 Santa Fe that I need to replace the alternator and if it was in an easier location wouldn't be such a big deal.

It's the getting better access to it and physically getting it out is the problem. Plus not being sure about the whole wheel well removal portion. Can't get a commitment from a mechanic I know to have him help/do it.

thanks all for any advice

you can d/l a manual from this site, to be honest its not much use.

i`m having the same problem, this is what i`ve done upto now.

disconnect battery

remove front wheel

remove inner panel in wheel arch, 3 or 4 10mm bolts

remove top adjusting bolt 12mm

remove drive belt

remove pivot bolt nut

diconect power cable to alternator 12mm

unable to remove plug in cable whilst alternator is still in place

pivot bolt pushed in as far as possible, it then fouls on a bracket

you are then supposed to be able to remove alternator by lifting it up and waggling it about so that it clears a " c" shaped bracket

i`ve spent over 5 hours trying to remove it !!!!!!!!!

and still no joy.

hope this is of some help, let us know how you get on

Check your PM box. A shop manual was sent to you. Remove the right front wheel an lower engine cover. There is a 14mm nut on the lower loosen it. There is a 12mm bolt on the top remove it. Two wires on the rear.

Question 2004 santa fe 2004 3.5l alternator -getting it back in position after timing belt rep

I have a 2004 3.5l Santa Fe in which I have just replaced the timing belt. What a hell of a job. I have removed the alternator to get access to the front engine bolt bracket. It is mostly together but have not been able to to get the alternator back in position to complete the job. Do I need to remove the A/C compressor to get enough room to get the alternator back on.

What I usuly do is remove the top bolt an lower bolt on the alt. an just move it back far enough to remove the 14mm bolt holding the motor mount bracket. It's very tight.

I know this is an old post, but maybe it will help someone someday. I have a 2004 Santa Fe with a 2.7L and it had a "c" shaped bracket. I am not saying this is the correct use of tools but after removing the top bold and loosening the bottom bolt I took a pry bar and gently wiggled the alternator up and out of the "c" shaped bracket.
I hope these pictures help shed some light.
