Default Valve Cover Gasket

I was wondering if anybody had the torque settings and tightening patter for the valve cover and timing belt cover. I have the manual but can not find it in there. Any help would be appreciated.

You have the DOHC or SOHC engine?

The manual doesn't specify a special order for either the valve cover or the timing cover. Just try to pull it down evenly.

Valve cover torque (8 ~ 10 Nm (80 ~ 100 kg.cm, 6 ~ 7 lb.ft)
Timing cover torque (same as valve cover)

I use the same sequence as the head...start in the middle and work my way out. First pass is finger tight. I've never used a torque wrench on a valve cover gasket, so second pass is snug.

Since you have the DOHC make sure you get the cover gasket set. This will come with the cover gasket and the spark plug hole gaskets. I changed mine at about the same mileage and the spark plug gaskets were hard as a rock.

Also, you only have to remove the upper t-belt cover to change the valve cover gasket, but at that mileage you are due for a t-belt.

This might seem like a dumb question, but I'm new to cars and learning as I go along repairing my own accent. Can you explain that last bit about the t-belt? Did you only include that so he'd know what parts he needed to remove or did you include it because removing the cover to the t-belt will it damage or warp the t-belt or timing in some way?

I mentioned it because only the upper t-belt cover needs to be removed to replace the valve cover gasket. It only has a few bolts and is an easy removal...plus it gives you a nice look at the t-belt so you can tell if it needs replaced(if you don't know when the last one was put on). Removing the cover will have no affect on the belt or timing.

Default Valve cover gasket/ shop manual

I will be replacing the valve cover gasket, but was unsure of torque and bolt order on the valve cover gasket. I'll also do brake pads and rotors at some point? Does anyone know where I can find a manual for an 02 accent?

MR
