my 2004 elantra gets about 260 miles on a full tank. my cousin's elantra would get about 350 miles on a full tank his had more miles than mine. mine has 43,323. what could it be. changed air filter, oil, tire pressure. my 5.0 stang gets better mileage

Well to start off with is you check engine light on? Does it run bad?
What I would check is couple things,Air fiilter make sure it is clean, the gas station you get gas at, "cheap gas" ethanal enriched gas like 10% this will cause you to have poor fuel. Aslo Tire pressure will cause this as well! those are a few things to check. Let us know!

I guess from what you are saying there is no good reason your car is getting poor fuel milage, Driven conditions will cause poor fuel too. How often are you in the gas? Its getting warmer as well using AC will cause poor fuel too. I dont really know if a fuel injection cleaning will do you any good! On a Hyundia I have never seen this make that much inprovement for the money you spend on that service. You may spend an half hour labor at at shop an run through your data list in your PC, Check Short/Long Term fuel trims in your PC. I have seen an 01 to 05 Elantras have intake leaks an will cause poor fuel as well.
If the car was mine I would spend the money for someone to look at it before I spend money on fuel injection cleaning. Just my opinion.

i use my car for daily driving. i dont floor the gas pedal i do that in my 5.0. but the reason why i bought the car was for fuel economy. i guess ill just get the car checked for leaks. im gonna check the MAF sensor and clean it. also check the o2 sensor.

Duneking, I know you don't have many miles on the car and checking vacuum leak is a one, but I wonder your converter maybe partially plugged. Easy way is to take the back or the palm of your hand (when cold) and give a good bump. If it rattles, it may mean your cat is gone.
cheers
