On a 30,000 mile service is just draining and refilling the pan sufficient as the HMA site has you disconnect the line from the tranny to the cooler and let fluid run out and THEN drain the pan and then refill?

You can do that, But as far as Hyundai drain an fill will work. If you do it yourself just keep your receipts.

so what are the other brands that are approved by Hyundai to use?

That question is brought up very often. There is lots of aftermarket fluids that say they are approved by Hyundai. But I don't know of any that is approved by Hyundai. I always say "use at your own risk" The reason I say this is because if you have any transmission concerns the first thing the dealer is going to ask is if you have done your transmission service. An if they find out its anything other Hyundai fluid they might make you pay for another fluid service. In most cases Hyundai SPIII is very inexpensive.

I have to disagree. They don't say they are aproved by Hyundai but claim they meet or exceed the SPIII standard...and are "recomended" for that vehicle.

I've never used a factory fluid or filter, because they don't make them. OEM suppliers will sell them for less.

huyndai sp iii tranny fluid is not that expensive up here it will cost 30 $ for the 4 liter jug, plus it clearly says not to mix with other fluids this gets important when you drain and fill, its cheap insurance

Just did my 2008 Ltd. on Saturday at 37,725 miles. Did the "drain and refill" thing while under the car changing the oil. It took almost exactly 5 quarts to refill. The drain plug magnet had quite a bit of fine metallic sludge on it - most likely break-in wear.....

And just FYI... the OEM Hyundai SP III fluid cost me $72 for 6 quarts over the counter at my local Hyundai stealership........

Still cheap insurance though IMHO.

Thanks for the tips, Changed the trans fluid, The Azera took 5 1/2 qts, good tip on buying 6 qts., it was needed. 5 screws needed to be removed to get the plastic panel moved out of the way to get at the drain plug. The mag plug had a bunch of metal dust on it. Cleaned it with Brakleen and blew it of with air. Used some pts on the threads and snuged it up gently, no leaks. Again Thanks For this Tip Thread !!!
