What kind of noise is it? Thunk or creak?

Its more like a hollow sound, thump, loose suspension noise. Like if you had a tire way over inflated tires! But there not.
The production date on the door is really best way to tell if your car has the bad shocks on it!

The production date of your car is 5-22-08 So you would have the old number on your car.

Are the old part numbers all bad or just some fail?

Okay Great! I bought a certified sonata with only 9500miles so I still have the remaining warranty so I'll just keep a look out to see if my front shocks are going bad. Thanks for all the help!
By the way, you guys are much more helpful then the ppl at hyundai-forums.com.

I seem to have the thud noise only from the passenger side front strut. There is a big difference when you hit a bump on the drivers side and the passenger side. I told my dealer and they said they cannot hear anything. It is a pretty obvious noise. I also told them about the part numbers you show but they say they cannot just change out parts unless they find a problem. Sooooo, off we go! Glad I have not filled out the ''holy'' survey. I am trying to get this fixed before I fill it out. Things seem to change some afterward. Overall, I am still pleased with our Sonata.

You might have to ride with a tech. So you can point out the noise to them! You might have to call Hyundai if you dont get anywere at the shop! Even hold the survey over there head too! That will get them moven! They get paid off them surveys! LOL

Hey I'm new here. I have a 2009 Sonata GLS. I have been experiencing the noisy suspension. I agree about the other Hyundai Forum, hyundai-forums.com. Not helpful and always yelling at people who, in their estimation, are posting things about repeat issues, etc.
I bought my Sonata in June of 08, so I am assuming from the first post in this thread that I have the bad parts and that the mentioned part number will likely fix the noise? Do you have any idea on cost of replacement if I did not push the issue of having them replace it under warranty and simply wanted them to replace them and paid for by me?
thank you!

I would strongly advise you to press on with this issue under warranty. That is why you have the warranty in the first place so let it be at your utilization. They should have knowledge of the new part number and should not dispute the warranty claim. I hope that this helps you and please let us know if we can be of any furter assistance.

Although I may have the bad part, I can't seem to hear the thunk. I bought this pre-owned with 9500mi so i'm wondering if it's been replaced... or I'm just lucky and not having issues...
Will any hyundai dealer be able to pull all service records? or do I need to call directly to Hyundai corporate?

Were there any TSB on this issue? I hear some thunks over bumps but I'm afraid that tech might say they don't hear anything and try to brush it off. If there's a TSB, it would be helpful.

No there are no TSB that I know of, This is a part number from the engineering dept of Hyundai. What is the production of your Sonata? Is it a 4cyl?

Usually the number on a factory part, isn't the part number, but an engineering number. The best way to tell is look at the build date.

that mean that the new struts have a date later than the date on the original one, So I need to know the date of the new struts? (or what manufacturing date should I look for?)my car manufactured at 04/22/2008
thanks alot:santa1:

From what Admin1 said on the fist page of this thread...after Oct '08 is good, so you may have the bad ones.

Hi everyone. I have question regarding Hyundai warranty...
I took my '09 Sonata v6 (pre- oct '08 model with bad shocks) to the dealer for the front thunking noise and they told me my right front (passenger side) strut and strut mount is bad. They said they noticed some oil oozing out of the strut.
They are replacing the right strut and strut mount but my questions is...
Aren't they suppose to replace the struts and strut mounts in pair? I thought replacing just one side is a safety hazard.. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I asked why they are replacing just one side and their reasoning is that Hyundai will only warranty the bad parts and since the left driver side is fine, it wont be replaced under warranty.

Anyone have any idea whether Hyundai warranty will cover replacing the struts in pair instead of just one?

Well they are right. Hyundai will only pay for a bad part. But if they word the repair right they could make it happen. But all up the the dealer.
