Has anyone changed the in-tank fuel filter on a 2006 Sonata? If so, what did you use, in place of the special tool, to remove the Fuel Pump Locking Ring?
Thanks.

Only other way I could think of is to use a punch an a hammer, I have done it this way not very easy though. Is there a reason you want to replace the fuel filter? Not very common that they go out. How many miles you have on this car?

I have debated as a lot of people have , the reason why Hyundai decided to put the fuel filter in a location not easily accessible to the end user. Additionally, they have seen it necessary to include it along with the fuel tank air filter as a scheduled maintenance item. Many people have posted that the dealer either has suggested that the fuel filter need not be changed. Postings indicated that some dealers don't even know what the fuel tank air filter even is.
Unfortunately unless someone puts it in writing that these items don't need to be changed and that not changing them will not be a problem when trying to submit a warranty claim, the owners are stuck with trying to interpret the owner's manual maintenance schedule.
I have about 37,800 miles on the car know.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks

Well here at our dealer we will not "take the customers money" on the fuel filter. We will not suggest the customer to replace the fuel filter unless it it plugged up! It is a very large filter an the reason Hyundai did this was to keep the fuel pump cool at any fuel level in the tank! No I will also tell you I have worked on Hyundai for 12 years an have never changed a filter in the tank unless the fuel pump has went out.
Now the Fuel Air filter you are talking about is the Close Canister Valve Filter, Now on this car the Filter is part of the Close Canister Valve, an it is serviced as a unit. The war on this part is 5/60 because it is a Elect. Valve. So I would not worry about this item either. It is located on the fuel neck. I hope this help you!

I appreciate the honest feedback and also the recall notice I saw on this site, regarding the stop lamp switch. The timing was great as the car is going into the shop tonight for the broken sun visor and squeaky window regulator. Now I can add stop lamp switch to the list.
Thanks.
